My name is Amy Mae Baxter. I’m the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Bad Form, the books magazine by and about writers of color, and Commissioning Editor at HarperCollins.

I talk a lot about the importance of diversity and inclusion in books, and I write about it too.

You can email me at amymaebaxter@gmail.com

I’m based in London, but mostly online.

I’ve been named a Big Issue Changemaker and a Bookseller Rising Star for my work on platforming writers of colour. I’ve also been longlisted for the AllBright Awards and London Book Fair Trailbalzer.

After graduating with a degree in History in 2019 from the University of Cambridge, I founded Bad Form and joined Penguin Random House as an editorial trainee. I then moved to Little, Brown at Hachette as an Assistant Editor in 2021, before being promoted to Editor at Dialogue in Spring 2022, and Senior Editor in Autumn 2022. I moved to Avon, HarperCollins in Summer of 2023.

Panels and Speaking

I regularly host events and speak about the importance of inclusion in books and publishing, with clients including the Bookseller’s FutureBook Conference, Kings College London, the Women’s Prize, and the University of Lancaster. I also host lots of author events, including one-on-one in conversations, and panel events, with clients including Foyles, Penguin Random House and Hachette.

Bad Form

I founded Bad Form in Autumn 2019, and have been editing wonderful print issues and online content by and about writers of colour ever since. You can see some examples of my writing for Bad Form here. Bad Form has recently won a National Diversity Award and a Bookseller award. We’ve published 11 print issues as of 2023.

Writing

I’ve written for a variety of publications, including British Vogue, The Guardian and gal-dem. I write features and opinion on diversity and inclusion in publishing, popular literature, digital culture, and lifestyle.
